Facility Access

Facility Access Requirements for anyone gaining access to ACS facilities and working on an animal use protocol:

1. Current enrollment in the Animal Contact Program

2. You must be approved on an active IACUC protocol

  • Your investigator or their designee must submit a modification to add you to the IACUC protocol(s) you will be working on. Check with your investigator or lab manager to ensure this is completed before moving forward.
  • Once the modification has been submitted a list of the specific required IACUC training that you must complete will be generated as a “comment” on the protocol. If you can not find your required training task list in the protocol contact your investigator or lab manager to assist.
  • If you still have any questions about which required IACUC training you need to complete contact the IACUC office at iacuc@research.ufl.edu or (352) 273-9535.
  • In addition to this IACUC training you must also complete the necessary EHS, ACS and Facility trainings found in steps 3 – 6 below. You can work on all of these simultaneously however, all training MUST be complete before requesting facility access.

5. For mouse and rat ABSL2 use, complete the ABSL2 module

6. Complete the Facility Access Request Form

  • NOTE – you MUST complete all previous steps BEFORE requesting facility access.
  • Once all prior steps have been completed submit a Facility Access Request Form
  • Upon request submission, your investigator will be sent an email alerting them to review your request.
  • Once they approve your request; the ACS Front Office will receive it, verify that you’ve completed the access requirements and contact you via email.
  • For MBI vivarium access, you must also fill out the MBI Restricted Access Request Form. The MBI Building Administrators will activate your Gator 1 card access after your tour is completed and they have received approval.

7. Take your facility tour(s)

  • A tour is required after all above requirements are met. Once the ACS Front Office verifies that you have completed the access requirements above, they will add you to the tour list and send you and the facility manager(s) an email. This will allow you and the facility manager(s) to communicate to schedule a date/time to meet for your tour(s).
