ACS802 Aseptic Technique Workshops

It is highly recommended that you start this process in close proximity to beginning your experimental survival surgeries to ensure the information is fresh. We recommend completing the online and hands-on course within 2-3 months of starting your survival surgeries.

Assistants

The steps below are mandatory for all research staff that will be assisting or monitoring survival surgery in rodents. Topics covered include regulatory and policy information, ACS and IACUC requirements, Pre-operative period, Operative period, Post-operative period, record keeping and more. Ensure you are listed on an approved IACUC protocol and that Survival Surgery listed as one of your “study roles”.  Once assistants have completed the online course above they must attend the hands-on workshop.

Surgeons

The steps below are mandatory for all research staff performing rodent survival surgery (surgeons). Topics covered include regulatory and policy information, ACS and IACUC requirements, Pre-operative period, Operative period, Post-operative period, record keeping and more. Ensure you are listed on an approved IACUC protocol with Survival Surgery listed as one of your “study roles”.  Once Primary Surgeons have completed the online course above they must attend the hands-on workshop. Once a surgeon completes the hand-on workshop the final step is to complete a successful Surgery Observation.
