10/22/2007

Please be advised that starting tomorrow, 23 October, noise related to the Communicore renovation will commence. It is expected to persist for the next few weeks.

10/17/2007

The contractors need to shut down the Communicore freight elevator today.  It will be out of service between 2 – 3 PM.

10/16/2007

The contractors are going to close the Communicore hallway CB-C10 between the ACS admin section to the old SPF entrance starting 4 PM this Friday through 7 AM Monday for asbestos abatement.  Access to the Communicore basement through stairwell # 31 will not be available during this time.

9/11/2007

A contractor will be replacing the light fixtures in room CB-140 today and should be done today.  This work should generate minimal noise and vibration.  We anticipate their return sometime next week to replace the light fixtures in room CB-138.  We’ll keep you updated on the date.

Again, we apologize for any inconvenience this may be causing your lab.

9/5/2007

The jack hammering will resume on Thursday, 6 September, in the Communicore basement. The noise and vibration levels will remain high through Tuesday, 11 September.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause your lab.

9/4/2007

Dust-free air will need to be given to the abatement contractor for two more days. They will be onsite today, 4 September and Wednesday, 5 September. The jack hammering will resume on Thursday, 6 September. The noise levels will remain high until 11 September. We apologize for any inconveniences.

8/28/2007

The jack hammering has been stopped to allow clean air samples to be taken in the abatement area above the surgery suites. It will resume on Friday, 31 August, and continue through Wednesday, 5 September (possibly into Thursday morning, 6 September). A loud piece of equipment will be used to remove the epoxy flooring beginning Tuesday, 4 September and should be completed by the end of the week. After that, construction should flow normally not having the constant high noise levels.

8/27/2007

The contractors doing the ABSL3 renovation are still removing flooring in the old CB76 suite and SPF area today.  This involves chiseling the floor causing vibration and noise and is expected to continue until tomorrow, 28 August.  The contractors have to remove the material through the ARB tunnel so they will be rolling carts up and down the main hallway for most of the day.  This was unexpected and unavoidable.

Although every effort will be made to minimize disturbances, interruptions like this will occur throughout the construction process.

If you have questions please feel free to call Mike Riley, Manager of Operations, at 392-9210.

We apologize for any inconveniences this may cause your lab.

4/12/2007

The shoring for the Biomedical Science Project will start 16 April 2007 for a period of a week. There will be some noise and vibration associated with this work, although this is not the highest level of noise anticipated.

The actual demolition of the loading dock will begin on 7 May 2007 after the exams are completed. This will cause high noise and vibration in the area for a period of three weeks.

Those with State vehicles or construction vehicles/bins parked in the Communicore loading dock must remove the vehicles/bins prior to 3:00 PM on Friday, 13 April 2007.  The Loading dock will be closed immediately after for mobilization of the shoring equipment and will stay closed for the duration of the construction.

Please refer to the Facilities Planning website at http://facilities.ufl.edu for construction/schedule updates which are provided bi-weekly.

4/2/2007

During the construction of the Biomedical Sciences building, it is important to note that the highest levels of noise will occur 6-20 May 2007 as per the Noise and Vibration Schedule. For further construction updates, please refer to the Facilities Planning & Construction website at http://facilities.ufl.edu.

2/2/2007

On 2 February, the asbestos abatement will begin on the west side of the Communicore Animal Facility. Since a demolition is involved, noise and vibrations will be anticipated starting 4 February. Unfortunately, it is unavoidable as a result of the nature of what must be completed at this time. We suspect that the noise will be primarily most noticeable during the month of February. There may be periods when the noise is louder than other times. ACS will provide notice prior to the expected occurrence of periods of excessive noise.
Entrance through the loading dock into the Communicore Animal Facility will be closed starting 4 February. The closure will be permanent and the loading dock will not be reopened. Other entrances into the Animal Care facility are still accessible.
For investigators housing rodents within the Communicore Animal Facility, please note that it is still possible to relocate research projects and animals to the Cancer-Genetics Animal Facility.
We recognize the inconveniences the construction may cause, but know that it is necessary for the continuation of utilizing the animal facility and ensure the proper execution of the animal care program.
If you need assistance with entrance or require additional information, please feel free to contact me at 392-2978.

Renovation of the west side of the Communicore building (loading dock side), including the Infectious Disease Suite, SPF-1, and Large Animal housing area, will begin with Phase 1 of the asbestos abatement. Phase 2 of the asbestos abatement will begin sometime around 1 March 2007. See the diagram below for rooms within the Communicore that are included in the renovations. The project has a 13 month schedule for completion. Every effort will be made to bring areas back in line as soon as possible.

The SPF-1 area must be vacated on or before 1 January 2007 to allow ACS time to remove valuable and reusable equipment located within the area.  We continue to urge Investigators that are relocating to relocate breeding colonies to the Cancer-Genetics Research Center Animal Facility. All remaining rodents will be relocated to the east side of the Communicore Animal Facility. Large animals will be relocated to the Progress Center, VMTH Metabolic Building, or 34th street. After March 1 there will be limited capacity for any large animal survival surgery.

The Communicore loading dock will be closed 31 January 2007. Other access points to the Communicore facility will remain open.

Investigators planning on conducting animal related research projects utilizing large animals or the use of the Infectious Disease area during 2007 should contact Mike Riley, Assistant Director for Operations or Dr. August Battles to discuss space availability before planning on initiating any project.

Please periodically check ACS’ web site for construction updates.
